California's Water - PBS Series
California’s Water is a multi-part series for public television produced by Huell Howser, a popular public television personality, and underwritten by members of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA). The series explores California’s water resources and the complex system of natural and man-made features that has allowed growing communities, businesses, productive farms and ecosystems to coexist in a state that receives little or no rain for months at a time.
The series introduces viewers to California’s water system and highlights key aspects of water management today, from water storage and water recycling to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the Colorado River.
Topics in the series are based on ACWA’s 2005 water policy document, “No Time to Waste: A Blueprint for California Water”.
ACWA is a statewide association whose 440 members, of which Trabuco Canyon Water District is one, are responsible for about 90% of the water delivered in California. ACWA’s members and TCWD believe educating the public on water issues is critical and are taking that commitment seriously by underwriting the California’s Water series.
The first segment on Climate Change aired on KCET, a PBS affiliate in Southern California, on April 2nd . It will air again on April 17 at 6 p.m.
The second segment will focus on the Delta and Delta Levees, and the third segment will focus on the California Water System Overview.
The series is not being approached as a documentary or a presentation for those familiar with the state’s water issues. For example, the public will truly get a feel for why the Delta is critical and how our natural snow pack helps us to store water.
TCWD’s Board of Directors and staff believe this series will be interesting and presented at an understandable level. We recommend that you check your local listings for future viewing dates and times.
Also, the ACWA has a very interesting and information website. Their website – www.acwanet.com – can be easily accessed as a link through TCWD’s website.

Conservation Encouragement Rate Program
As TCWD has been informing customers, the Conservation Encouragement Rate program (CERP) was approved by the Board of Directors. The CERP is designed to reward wise water users and may possibly result in a rate reduction, while excessive water users will experience an adjustment to their rate similar to that of neighboring water districts.
The District is designing a CERP water calculator for its website (tcwd.ca.gov). The calculator will enable customers to calculate what their water costs will be when the CERP is in place effective January of 2007.
The District will continue to provide conservation water savings tips for indoor and outdoor use. We look forward to working with our customers over the coming months to stretch our existing water supplies and to avoid purchasing additional capacity in the future. And, don’t forget, saving water saves energy and money. It’s easy to do!
Address Change
In order to save staff time traveling to the post office in the core of Trabuco Canyon, the District has cancelled its post office box. Mail should be addressed to:
