TCWD's Open House - Water Awareness Month
Trabuco Canyon Water District celebrated Water Awareness Month by holding its first Open House on Saturday, May 19th. Over two hundred people attended the four hour event. The event was highlighted by a dedication ceremony where both the President of the Trabuco Canyon Water District and the Mayor of rancho Santa Margarita, Mr. Tony Beale, recognized the District’s promotion of water awareness and installation of a California Friendly Landscape at the District’s Administrative facility.
The event featured numerous displays of water apparatus used in and around the home, and provided the public with an opportunity to understand ways to conserve water and save money on plumbing repairs. Key vehicles of the District’s fleet were on display, and children were provided an opportunity to have their photograph taken sitting in the vehicles. There were several working demonstrations of District equipment, such as pipe seaming and mole digging that were tremendous crown pleasers.
Representatives of the District’s Water, Maintenance, and Wastewater Departments manned displays which provided the public with opportunities to understand key features of the District’s Water Treatment Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant. A working miniature multi-media water treatment filter was one of the more popular displays. Also popular with children and adults alike was the microscope exhibit which provided an opportunity to see the microorganisms that are essential for treatment of sewage.
The public had an opportunity to see the newly planted California Friendly Landscape, walk through the recently refurbished Administration building and Board Meeting Room and enjoy the humorous low technology Trabuco Canyon Water District Weather Station.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department had a display which was staffed by Crime Prevention Specialist Vickie Wright and several Explorer Scouts. Adults had an opportunity at this display to have their children finger printed for their future information.
The event was considered a success by all who attended and participated. The Trabuco Canyon Water District Board and staff look forward to planning a like event in May of 2008. We welcome you to drop by the Administrative facility or telephone us to receive low watering landscape brochures, irrigation brochures, and conservation materials to help you to conserve water as the warm weather begins.
